Paer deux of the Grand Transit Photo Adventure

#12) Take a picture in a fountain
We found this serene spot to stop for our lunch breach which was also perfect place to complete number 12 on our list.  Thanks to Di and her subtle prompts to read the list carefully before we moved on from this location.  Little did we know that our fountain picture were leave us still talking about it.  Di was to set the timer on my camera and hop into the fountain allowing for a perfect picture of the three of us in a fountain.  Well, I am not sure why Di had to set the camera other than she had slip on shoes so we dubbed her with the responsibility. The part about hopping into the fountain turned into a slip into the fountain and quite the splashing of water.  Lets just say that she had her own personal air cooling happening and that jean jacked stayed firmly knotted around her waist for entire day.  Thanks for taking one for the team Di.
#20) Texture walls... Experiement with background texture

#47) Snack time????
#24)Capture your reflection in an unexpected place...granite wall

on a whole, canon tends to be more affordable than nikon, so i would definitely go for canon, especially since your mom has one -it's cheaper both for bodies and for lenses...usually cannon lenses are about $50-100 cheaper than the nikon ones unless you get into the SUPER expensive lenses.

Canon EOS Digital Rebel T1i outfit (EF-S 18-55mm IS kit) looks like costco in the US has this for $899 US while kerrisdale cameras has it for $1049. i would strongly recommend getting it from costco if you do get a package...they may not have it online at costco.ca, but they may have it in stores. i buy all my camera equipment from adorama.com - they have free shipping, and excellent return/exchange policy, and the cheapest prices. maybe even with the exchange rate it's cheaper to get in the US - when you buy from adorama, there's no shipping AND no tax...so you save 13% already.

i would recommend the Canon EOS Digital Rebel T1i DSLR Camera (Body Only) (New Products) $949 kerrisdale, $799 adorama (although for an extra $100 you can get the basic lens, too)

AND

Canon EF-S 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Auto Focus Lens - this is basically the TWO lenses in that bigger kit, but you don't have to swap them in and out all the time if you want wide angle and if you want to zoom way in. $595 adorama, $749 kerrisdale

i don't know a lot about those kind of cameras, but i think even though the 50D doesn't shoot video, i think it's a better camera?? unless you really really want to use it for video, i think you're better off with a real camcorder or even the video capabilities in a little point and click because it's so hard to stabilize an SLR camera to do video so your audience doesn't get seasick.

adorama has the 50D + 18-200mm lens for $1599, kerrisdale sells for $1,769

here's a quick comparison i found:
In the following ways the 50D is distinguishably better than the T1i:

Better ergonomics & built tougher

Faster & more comfortable control (once you get used to the dials the 50D is much faster to handle
Much better focusing system (all cross type sensors makes a huge difference both in speed and sensitivity!)
Faster speed (Solid 6FPS, shorter mirror blackout time, shorter shutter lag)
Larger & brighter Viewfinder
More durable shutter (100,000 vs 50,000)
The T1i wins in the following two ways as I can see:

Potentially better image quality at high ISOs
movie mood
I think your choice between these two cameras will still depend on what kind of photography you'd like to do. If you shoot fast sport or you will need the extra weather sealing for using it outdoor, the 50D is certainly recommended. But if you shoot portrait most of the time then the T1i is good for the job. As a 50D owner who once owned the XTi, I feel hard to go back to the Rebel line as I'm not used to the arrow keys anymore. The 50D certainly gives me more confidence to shoot anything anywhere, it feels solid and tough.

i thought about the cameras some more. i think the T1i has a really light plasticky body and feels like a toy to me (or at least my dad's nikon d60 feels that way compared to mine), the 50D is more solid and heavy and feels more like the old film slr cameras.
